Drivers using the wrong fuel

0

A recent report from the top UK breakdown services says that more and more drivers are putting the wrong type of fuel in their cars compared to ten years ago.

Apparently over 150,000 drivers make this fuel error each year, which could potentially damage the car for good or cost great amounts to repair. It is thought that the number of people now using diesel which are on the whole a lot quieter than ever before makes them forget what vehicle they are driving.

Here at Bill Plant we think petrol stations should have better signs on their pumps to remind people what fuel to use and pump nozzles could be modified much like the diesel types that are too big to fit into a petrol car.

The point to make is that people need to be more aware of the fuels they put into their cars, remember ever those with the greatest of driving experience can be caught out.

Mobile Phone Use When Driving- UK Driving Law

0

The law regarding the use of a mobile phone whilst driving a motor vehicle is quite clear, or we understand it to be the case, so you would imagine that a government minister in the Home Office would be fully aware of this legislation. Therefore it comes as a complete surprise to most that Liam Byrne, the immigration minister, has been convicted for driving while using his mobile phone. Mr. Byrne claimed that he was taking an important call, but we all know that this is no excuse for breaking the law. What makes this offence more difficult to understand is that Mr. Byrne is a former policeman! As a result of his misdemeanor the minister was fined £100.00 plus costs of £50.00 and received three penalty points on his licence.

Figures have been released this week to show that the illegal use of mobile ‘phones is still prevalent and using a mobile ‘phone at the wheel is one of the most common examples of bad driving, and although stricter penalties were introduced earlier this year, more than 1100 drivers have been reported. Using a mobile ‘phone when driving is means that the driver is not in full control of the vehicle, lacks concentration, frankly it is dangerous.

Drinking and Driving after a night out

A tragic case has come to light, highlighted in the nation press and local television, of a van driver 23 year Scott Easton who crashed into the car of a family of 5, a mother, father and three children, whilst driving on the A1 near Kirby Fleetham North Yorkshire in March of this year killing four of the family including the mother and father.

It transpires that the van driver had been drinking the night previously and when checked by the police at the time of the accident, was over the legal drink driving limit. This case highlights the dangers of assuming that it will be alright to drive a motor vehicle after consuming, what could be moderate quantities of alcohol the night before and driving the next day. Airline pilots in common with professional drivers do not drink alcohol the night before undertaking their professional duties and the same rule should apply to all people who drive motor vehicles.

The consequences of breaking the law in this regard are serious and the van driver in this case received a custodial sentence of seven years in prison and a small nine year old boy is without a mother, father and two brothers.
