Vehicle Licensing Online - Renew Car Tax Disc Easy Way- SORN

DVLA Online Service a Winner

No longer do you have to wait in the post office queue in your work break to update your car tax. The checking system is now automated so you can get a car tax disc online and by making a quick phone call.

The other thing you can do with the DVLA’s online services is declare a vehicle off the road.

How does licensing your vehicle online work ?

A reminder normally comes through the post that your tax needs to be renewed, simply enter the sixteen digit reference number from this reminder and your numberplate.

  • When you apply for a new tax disc online a check will be done to see if your car is insured and if the car has a new style MOT certificate.
  • Make a choice between 6 or 12 months car tax then pay with a credit/debit card
  • Your new car tax disc will arrive in the post within 5 working days.
  • If you declared your vehicle off the road - Statatory Off Road Notification (SORN) a confirmation letter will arrive in within a 4 week period.

Today it was pointed out to me that my car tax was out of date. In fact it ran out at the end of July. I have not received a reminder - hence I did not even think renewal was imminent. Can you please supply me with a copy of the letter you normally send so I can tax my car.

    Thank You, BS.

i bought a car reg no T 563 LLB . The person who sold the car to me sent the documents to dvla over 6 months ago. I have not had anything from dvla since. I do not have a log book, and I need to renew my road tax. Please let me know what to do ASAP.

What is all this nonsense about the DVLA Online Service being a winner?
I left a message on Friday 25th April and have received no response, even “we have received your message and are investigating” or even “please ring this number with your problem”

Initially, I too thought the DVLA online service was great. Then my tax disk needed renewing during the postal strikes. When I contacted the DVLA to ask what would happen if my tax disk arrived late because of the postal strikes I was told that I would be committing an offence even though I had renewed online, and was advised by the DVLA to renew in a post office, not to use their online renewal service.

hi my tax disc run out yesterday, I have renewed it on line but will not get to me for a few days, as I have paid for my tax disc does this mean that I can still drive my car? I have looked for the answer on the dvla site and can’t fund any information on this. I feel that because I have paid for the tax it should be legal for me to drive? Does anyone know the answer to my situation
